The California Blue Knights is a renowned motorcycle club that offers law enforcement membership to those in the field. Joining this motorcycle club membership provides an opportunity to connect with fellow law enforcement professionals while enjoying the camaraderie and passion for riding.
Qualifications for California Blue Knights law enforcement membership are as follows: You must be an active full or part-time law enforcement officer with powers of arrest. Additionally, you should be employed by a governmental agency and receive monetary compensation, or you can be a retired or disabled former law enforcement officer. It is also essential to possess a valid license to operate a motorcycle. Lastly, you need to own a motorcycle or plan to purchase one within six months to qualify for motorcycle club membership.
Regular Members
Regular members of the California Blue Knights must be individuals who are employed full-time (a minimum of 32 hours per week) by a governmental law enforcement agency or department. This employment must be the primary source of income for all Regular members. All Regular members must possess arrest authority, meaning they are empowered "by statute" to arrest offenders, as defined in their jurisdiction (excluding private citizens) at all times while on duty.
Individuals who have been employed and have taken an honorable separation after twenty (20) years of total service as full-time employees (32 hours per week minimum) of a governmental law enforcement agency or department are eligible for Regular membership, even if they are not currently employed by such a law enforcement agency or department. These individuals must submit letters or documentation to prove their qualifications under this section.
Retired Military Personnel who served in a law enforcement job classification for not less than twenty (20) years before separation from the military may apply for Regular membership. Again, documentation must be submitted to substantiate their qualifications under this section.
Persons receiving disability income or job reclassification due to injuries sustained while engaged in full-time law enforcement employment—or those receiving retirement income for full-time employment, as previously defined—are also eligible for Regular membership, even if they are not currently employed by a law enforcement agency or department. Documentation must be provided to support their qualification.
Each Regular member must be properly licensed to operate a motorcycle in their jurisdiction and must own a motorcycle. Those who qualify as Regular members but do not currently own a motorcycle may still become members if they plan to acquire a motorcycle within six (6) months of their acceptance into the motorcycle club membership.
Associate Members
Associate members must be individuals employed part-time (less than 32 hours per week, with a minimum of 96 hours per year) by a governmental law enforcement agency or department and receiving monetary compensation for their work. All Associate members must have arrest authority, meaning they must be empowered "by statute" to arrest offenders, as defined in their jurisdiction (excluding private citizens) at all times while on duty.
Individuals who have been employed and have taken an honorable separation after fifteen (15) years of total service as part-time employees (less than 32 hours per week, minimum 96 hours per year) of a governmental law enforcement agency or department are eligible for Associate membership, even if not currently employed by such agency or department. They must provide documentation to prove their qualifications.
Regular members and individuals may apply for Associate membership if they have served more than ten (10) years but less than twenty (20) as full-time employees (32 hours per week) with one or more governmental law enforcement agencies or departments and have separated from employment under honorable circumstances, possessing arrest authority as defined. Documentation is required to substantiate their qualifications.
Retired Active-Duty Military Personnel may apply for Associate membership if they served in a law enforcement job classification for more than ten (10) but less than twenty (20) years before honorable separation from the military. Documentation must be included with the application.
Individuals receiving disability income or job reclassification due to injuries sustained while engaged in part-time law enforcement employment are eligible for Associate membership, even if they are not currently employed by such agency or department. Documentation must be provided to substantiate their qualification.
Each Associate member must be properly licensed to operate a motorcycle by the jurisdiction in which they reside and must own a motorcycle. Those who otherwise qualify as Associate members but do not currently own a motorcycle may become members if they plan to acquire ownership within six (6) months of their acceptance. An Associate member unable to safely operate a motorcycle due to an injury or medical condition, including age-related conditions, may retain their membership without motorcycle ownership or license requirements.
Honorary Members
Honorary members must be individuals who have made substantial contributions to the promotion of the California Blue Knights and to the purposes for which the corporation is organized. Honorary membership in any chapter may not exceed more than ten percent (10%) of the previous year's membership of Regular, Associate, and Life members.
Special Honorary Members
Special honorary membership may be granted to an ordained licensed member of a recognized religious order for the position of Chapter Chaplain. To qualify, a Special Honorary Member must have a minimum of one (1) year of experience in a church or ministry in a leadership capacity (such as a priest, rabbi, minister, or pastor) or as an authorized law enforcement chaplain. Documentation of experience must be submitted with the application. Special Honorary Members are limited to one (1) per chapter and will not affect the chapter's ten percent (10%) honorary limit.
Life Members
Life members are restricted to the Founding Fathers of the International and Past International Presidents in good standing. Life members are not obligated to be part of a chapter.
